Come October, the celebrated 1960's
Pittsburgh-based crooner Bobby Vinton will come to the Silver Springs
Nature Park in Ocala, Florida to perform some of his favorite old
songs. Mr. Vinton has had a history of more than 40 years in the
music industry, starting with the 1960 single "Roses Are Red (My
Love)." This song went from rejection and dismissal by Epic
Records to topping the billboard charts, holding the number one spot
for four weeks straight. Of course, to modern audiences, Bobby
Vinton's most famous song is "Blue Velvet." First performed
in 1963, the haunting undertone of this song was exploited to
excellent effect by David Lynch in his 1986's movie "Blue
Velvet."
At the
concert, which takes place on the stage of the Twins Oaks Mansion,
Mr. Vinton shows new fans that he has more than one impossibly and,
perhaps, darkly romantic song dealing with the color blue in his
repertoire. In interviews, Vinton has stated that the thematically
related "Blue on Blue" is one of the songs that he,
himself, loves best. Other famous songs that Vinton will play at the
concert include "Please Love Me Forever," "I Love How
You Love Me," and "Mr. Lonely."
Because
tickets to the concert are included with the cost of admission to
Silver Springs Nature Park itself, this concert promises to introduce
Bobby Vinton to many generations of new fans. The themes of love and
yearning expressed in Bobby Vinton's smooth singing are timeless.
Many of the songs deal with the longing for a time and place that can
never exist in reality--and, yet, the songs themselves are now
associated with a specific era in time that is gone.
