University of South Florida Botanical Gardens in Tampa, FL
Visitors to Tampa, Florida are in for a real treat once they set foot in the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens. The Gardens was established in 1969 with many of the most notable flora and fauna planted throughout the 1970s. Today, the Botanical Gardens is one of the most diverse gardens with everything from fruit trees to tropical trees and everything in-between.
Over 30,000 visitors from all over Florida, the country, and even the world come to the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens in order to view the more then 3,000 taxa of plants. The scent of begonias, orchids, and fruit trees waft in the air welcoming guests to stroll along the paths.
The Botanical Gardens is home to a butterfly garden, herb garden, and even a few species of carnivorous plants. Festivals are held here regularly depending upon the season. The Tropical Plant Fair is held July 12 and 13 and educates the public about the plants that can be found near the equator. Other fairs and workshops are announced through the website or newsletter. There is a small admission price for these events but are usually nothing more then a couple of bucks. The University of South Florida has charge over the Botanical Gardens which serve the public through the week and weekend. The University of South Florida is one of the best institutions for continuing education on the Gulf Coast of Florida and uses the Garden as a way to reach out to the community.
